Sioux Trujillo

Artist, Designer, Creative, Associate Director of Community+Public Arts: Detroit

Sioux Trujillo received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. She has worked in the Detroit Art Community for 13 years as an artist and administrator and has an art studio in Detroit. As a professional Artist, she has received awards and grants for her mixed media works. Trujillo is a 2009 Kresge Artist Fellow and the recipient of a Michigan Educational Grant. She has also received awards for her mixed media works from Burren College of Art and College for Creative Studies. She has exhibited locally at the Pioneer Building, Susanne Hilberry Gallery, and Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and internationally at Muria Art Gallery in Kinvara, Ireland, Burren College of Art Gallery in Ballyvaughan, Ireland, Point Aven France, and at Taller Galleria Fort in Barcelona, Spain. She has directed two non-profit Detroit Community arts programs, has held curatorial responsibilities for public art exhibitions, developed lectures, performances, and community outreach projects, written successful grants to fund a Detroit based non-profit arts organization and been awarded the Joyce Fellowship for Emerging Leaders of color. Currently, Trujillo is the Associate Director of community+public arts:DETROIT, a pilot initiative that brings community-driven public art projects to six underserved Detroit neighborhoods. She was recently elected for a six-year term on the Public Art Network Council for Americans for Arts.
