Gina Reichert

Architect – Design 99

Moderator – 4:00 pm, Wednesday, April 6th – Rethinking Sustainability: Artist and Designer – led approaches

Gina Reichert founded Design 99 with partner Mitch Cope in 2007 to investigate new models of contemporary art and architectural practice. Initially occupying a retail storefront space, the design studio situated itself in the public realm offering over-the-counter design consultations and $99 house call specials. Now working from their homebase in Detroit, the team continues to investigate the functionality of art and aesthetics in their neighborhood.  In 2010, Reichert & Cope founded Power House Productions, a nonprofit organization focused on neighborhood stabilization through art and culture.

Their work has been featured in the New York Times, Detroit News and Free Press, CNN, NPR, I.D. and Dwell magazines among others.  Design 99 has been included in exhibitions worldwide among them the Van Abbemuseum, Kunsthalle Wien Project Space, Smart Museum, Detroit Institute of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Gina Reichert holds Master of Architecture degrees from Cranbrook Academy of Art and Tulane University and has worked for architecture firms and community organizations in Cincinnati, New Orleans, New York and Detroit.
